Onchain Heroes x Abstract Partnership
When scouting for a home for OCH, we considered multiple chains and they needed to strictly accommodate our three core tenets; User Experience (UX), Distribution and Culture. We’d kept an eye on what @0xCygaar and the Frame team were up to before they announced that they were acquired by “IglooInc”.
When Abstract was publicly revealed, we knew that we'd found our forever home.
User Experience
Once the developer documents for Abstract were made public, the potential unlocked by the Abstract Global Wallet (AGW) was too appealing to pass up. Their approach of handling wallet abstraction with familiar login systems while supporting the functionality & flexibility we’ve come to love of various innovative dApps is something that alleviates a lot of our concerns with crypto's traditionally awful user experience.
We want to offer the best experience to the crypto-native person while also making the onboarding process for prospective “non-crypto” people as easy as possible. Paymasters, another feature natively available on Abstract, also caught our eye. Paymasters are smart contracts that pay for gas on behalf of other accounts. Abstract offers even more features that we’re learning about and thinking of potential ways to implement them in OCH. Even if we never end up using Paymasters or any other features, it’s still great to know that we have tools like this available.
Another benefit to us is that utilizing Abstract and their features also puts us in the unique position to curate experiences that wouldn’t be possible before. Through strategic partnerships, we can make other dApps accessible natively via the game. This would allow us to onboard our players into the overarching Abstract ecosystem without leaving the game. These kinds of possibilities are nothing short of exciting!
Distribution
We had two main considerations, one of which we’ve already talked about; UX. The other consideration is distribution. Being an onchain game, the game's functions and its underlying economy function best when interacted by an expansive player base. Simply put, the more players we have playing OCH, the better the experience for everyone interacting with the ecosystem is going to be.
More Players = Better Game
We were floored with the distribution mechanisms designed & deployed by @LucaNetz and his team over at @PudgyPenguins, and to be able to partner with the same team was a no-brainer decision. Whether it’s the Pudgy Penguin IP entering the internet hivemind with over 29b views through Pudgy Media or having sold over 1m+ physical toys (most likely in a store near you), they’ve achieved something which no other team in the space has and that too, at scale.
We want OCH to cater to a wide range of players while discovering the playstyle that suits them the best and that vision requires scale; There is no one better to partner with.
Culture
Another thing that has also differentiated Penguins from 99% of other NFT collections is the emphasis on community building and the culture of supporting fellow builders.
It’s no secret that a lot of Penguins are at the forefront of crypto innovation and have even lovingly been named “The PengPal Mafia”. Penguin holders are one of the biggest beneficiaries (if not the biggest) of numerous airdrops that have happened throughout the past few years (from Celestia to LayerZero), signalling to everyone who the various protocols and dApps think have one of the most active and crypto adept communities. The huddle indeed remains strong.
We have a lot to learn and when given the chance to learn from the best, we didn’t hesitate one bit.
With this partnership, we're one step closer to delivering the best experience possible to all OCH players. This is just the beginning of our journey, and we can't wait to share more updates as we progress.
